The British Racing School is set up to provide for the training needs of staff working in the (horse) racing industry, or wishing to enter it. We run courses for those embarking on a career in racing right up to management training and a degree offer, delivered in conjunction with Hartpury University.

Entry level training is a residential foundation’ course of 6, 12 or 18 weeks, depending on previous experience. Around 15% of those starting the longer course have not ridden before. Whilst this is no barrier a high level of fitness and motivation is needed for a successful outcome. The training is part funded by the Government (the remainder coming from the racing industry) and termed a study programme. On completion of this, young people progress to a job in a racing yard and the commencement of the Level 2 Apprentice in Equine Care. This is subject to End Point Assessment and we have a 100% pass rate with nearly 50% achieving distinctions.

A career in racing has much to offer, it is well structured, well paid, can take you around the world and is working with amazing animals.

“In my opinion The British Racing School is a wonderful organisation that provides many young people with a fantastic platform on which to start their careers in horse racing.  Not only have I taken on several young students to come and work in my stables but I myself completed several modules there in order to gain my trainers licence.  They do a brilliant job. “
-Charlie Fellowes, Racehorse Trainer
