PeoplePlus Case Studies
Hellen
Hellen had been in the UK for 2 years, having come from Italy in 2015. In that time she struggled to find help with her English and applying for jobs. She saw an advert for the Black Country Impact project with PeoplePlus and applied. This project is individually tailored to help young adults break down the personal barriers that may be holding them back from finding work, improving their skills or gaining qualifications and is just one of the back to work initiatives that PeoplePlus supports. PeoplePlus helped Hellen with her CV and found her a work placement with Bella Italia straight away. Hellen wanted a job where she could work with people, helping people and that’s exactly what she got! After finishing the work placement she got taken on and has been with Bella Italia ever since.
Michael
Michael is 24 year old from Oldham, Greater Manchester. He was referred to PeoplePlus from the Job Centre to attend a 3 week ‘Confidence Building & Motivation’ workshop as he was struggling to find work due to his low self-esteem. He was shy, lacking in confidence, and didn’t believe he was capable of finding work due to his lack of experience.
Michael had been out of work for two years and he felt demotivated and negative about his prospects. He had no CV or career aspirations and didn’t know what type of work to apply for.
The course consisted of daily workshops with tutor lead learning and group activities to build confidence and inspire the learners combined with supported job search sessions and careers advice and guidance.
Michael contributed to all group work and activities throughout the course. He came out of his shell and built excellent relationships with the rest of the group. He actively engaged in discussions and shared his views and opinions. He was always on hand to support others and showed great spirit and began to build his confidence.
PeoplePlus worked with Michael to create a CV and identify and apply for realistic work opportunities to help him re-enter the workplace. By the end of the 3 weeks he had secured multiple interviews and felt confident in his ability to succeed.
Following the course, Michael has successfully secured employment with Yodel, boosted his confidence and built a network of new friends in his fellow learners.
Michael says “From the course, I now feel more confident. I can speak in front of people and also found a job. I never thought I would have found work. I have learnt lots about myself like knowing that I can achieve something.”
