“I felt heard, understood and able to do anything I set my mind towards.” – Elliot’s story

When Elliot joined the Work & Health programme, he was receiving support with his mental health and felt that securing paid employment was the next step for him, but he wasn’t sure what type of work he’d like to do.

Elliot had some previous experience working in landscaping and felt sure that he’d prefer a hands-on, outdoor role.

He worked with his Employment Coach, Angela, to identify some sectors that interested him, and he was keen to find something where he could build on his skills and learn a trade.

Together, Elliot and Angela looked at several positions, but they all required a CSCS card. Angela was able to find a CSCS course starting the next week and Elliot enrolled immediately.

Within 2 weeks, he had completed the CSCS course online, passed the CSCS test at his local test centre and achieved a Level 1 Award in Construction!

Elliot was keen to put his CSCS card to use as quickly as possible and begin gaining some work experience. Angela suggested that he register with a recruitment agency that specialises in construction work and Elliot was offered paid work starting the following week!

The agency required Elliot to supply his own PPE and Angela quickly ordered a hard hat, safety boots, high-vis and work trousers so that he could start work. He has being placed at differing sites so the Work & Health Programme have also been able to purchase a bicycle for Elliot, making it much easier for him to get to & from work.

Since then, Elliot has now secured a permanent, full time role! This will give him the stability and guaranteed hours that the agency placements weren’t able to offer.

Quote from Elliot:
“When I was referred to Seetec Pluss, I was very dubious because I had never really reached out for help before, due to my pride and wanting to be independent. I was also afraid of what I might encounter on the other side.

“I was then assigned to Angela, who from day one, was nothing short of exemplary as she made me feel heard, understood and able to do anything I set my mind towards. Angela was extremely informative, responsive, caring and went above and beyond her job role to support me back into work.

“The programme itself was fantastic and has provided me with so much support that I never knew was available, from supporting me in job seeking to funding courses and transport. I have absolutely nothing negative or even neutral to say about Seetec Pluss, the Work and Health Programme and Angela herself. I can only sing praise as it’s been incredible from day one and I would highly recommend anyone needing support to reach out and ask for this help”.
