At Shaw Trust we believe everyone has the right to live a decent and dignified life and an opportunity for rewarding work. We are a social purpose organisation challenging inequality and breaking down barriers to enable social mobility.
We put people at the centre, knowing the right support at the right time can make a huge difference to an individual’s life. We empower people from childhood to career through our services embracing employability, education, learning and skills, children’s services and health and wellbeing support.
Our co-created services include large scale employability programmes, specialist services for communities, residential care for children, targeted support for young people, on-the-job learning and training and individual guidance and support. Our work is commissioned by government departments, regional and local authorities, the NHS and employers and is delivered through a people centred approach.

Bethan’s story
“If it wasn’t for the phenomenal support that I received from everybody at Shaw Trust, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to take a leap of faith and make this big change in my life.”
After being referred to the JETS programme by her Jobcentre work coach, Bethan explained her desire to look at jobs outside of the hospitality sector, where she had previously worked both in the UK and overseas.
Taking a good a look at her transferable skills was an important first step as it helped her employment advisor suggest job areas to research. Wanting to move forward in the Health and Social Care sector, Bethan was put forward for a number of workshops to upskill and gain knowledge. Bethan said:
“Liz at Shaw Trust provided me with fantastic support in helping me to sign up to some free online courses, which has really helped me to boost my self-confidence and I have realised that I really enjoy learning and shall continue to learn as much as possible while I work.”
“She also provided access to lots of different skill building workshops, which I attended and CV and cover letter workshops and a workshop in job interview techniques, which were all so valuable in helping me to have the confidence to start a new career and find my dream job.”
Bethan stayed engaged and positive throughout the programme and took all advice on board. After applying for a Support Worker role, Bethan was invited to interview. After doing mock interviews with her employment advisor, Bethan passed the telephone interview and returned for a video call with the employer shortly after. Impressing at this too, Bethan attended a taster day and was offered the job!
After working hard to achieve her goal, Bethan now loves her new position and her employer is looking to complete further training with her so she can gain an NVQ in the sector.
Bethan told us “The support is out there for us, we just have to believe in ourselves first. Thank you so much for everything, Shaw Trust has been brilliant!”
