New Report

Exploring the potential

of generative AI to support

NEET young people into work

Between June and August 2024, Movement to Work and Oxford Insights conducted research into the impact of generative AI (gen AI) on young people not in education, employment, or training (NEET) seeking entry-level jobs. The research has been conducted in partnership with The Prince’s Trust and sponsored by Accenture, Microsoft, and GetMyFirstJob.

These first of its kind findings reveal that gen AI has the potential to “level the playing field” by simplifying complex job applications and offering young people tools to navigate the hiring process. Despite the significant promise of gen AI, the research highlights that only a small portion of NEET youth are currently using this technology, often due to lack of access or uncertainty about how it will be perceived by employers.

This report provides key insights, practical recommendations, and calls to action for employers, policymakers, and young people themselves, underscoring the need to embrace gen AI responsibly and inclusively to remove barriers to employment, build a future-proof workforce, and ensure no young person gets left further behind.
