Youth Employment UK suggests 5 Government Actions Required To Protect Youth Employment In The Face Of Coronavirus

The London Learning Consortium is providing a range of free courses to adults, subject to eligibility.

PwC will train new recruits online and offer summer work experience digitally

Summary: 

Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC – four accounting firms which are also major graduate recruiters – have not disclosed any changes to their graduate recruitment schemes, despite cutting pay for their partners by between 20% and 25%. However, PwC has cancelled its summer internship for 400 undergraduates. Those students have been offered alternatives which could include automatic entry to the firm’s graduate programme in 2021. PwC’s new recruits will be trained online, and the summer work experience programme will be offered digitally to all 5,500 students who originally applied for the 600 places.

BT release a series of webinars for young people at home

Summary: BT have designed a series of short, interactive webinars on four different topics, helping young people use their time to make sure that when the chance comes along, they will be ready to succeed.

In addition, BT has removed any grade criteria associated with graduate roles, as long as the applicant completes their studies. BT has stated that they are confident they can drop the requirement for a 2:1 degree as it has a rigorous recruitment process.

Pathway CTM releases series of Webinars and Virtual Events

The Change Foundation adapts its outreach approach in response to COVID-19, demonstrating how to reach marginalised young people

Summary: The Change Foundation is an award-winning charity that uses sport to change the lives of marginalised young people. They deliver targeted long-term interventions for the most vulnerable young people in our communities through Coach Mentors with lived experience, providing regular sport, personalised mentoring and work-related opportunities.

Being a sports charity COVID-19 has had an obvious and direct impact on engagement with the vulnerable groups they work with, but they have adapted and are working hard to continue to support them through online mentoring, pre-recorded messages, sessions and workshops, sports related tasks and challenges and providing counselling and support on the phone.

BITC launch the National Business Response Network

BITC launch the National Business Response Network, matching community needs across the UK and match them to the right business support.

Summary:  Business in the Community is the Prince’s Responsible Business Network – they exist to support their members and partners. As the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on towns and cities across the UK intensifies, the need to link business support to community need has never been more urgent. To meet this need they have launched the National Business Response Network to identify community needs across the UK and match them to the right business support. Through Business in the Community’s vast regional and local connections and leaders, they are able to identify national and local community needs. The network then connects businesses who have the resources to help.

Universal Credit claimants to verify identity through Government Gateway

People applying for Universal Credit will now be able to use their existing Government Gateway account to confirm their identity, helping to speed up their claim.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): support for victims of domestic abuse

The government supports and funds several charities who can provide advice and guidance and we are in regular contact to ensure that these support services remain open during this challenging time


Disability Confident Events

Following requests from a large number of Disability Confident (DC) employers, DWP have been working closely with a number of DC Leader (Level 3) organisations: KPMG, Do It, AdviserPlus and Manchester City Council. Together, with support from Dr Eamonn O’Neal DL (incoming High Sheriff of Greater Manchester) and Professor Amanda Kirby, we are delivering four-free seminars for national employers covering:

o   New ways of working – supporting disabled people;

o   Managing communications in your team and ensuring accessibility;

o   Looking after your health and well-being;

o   Recruiting and Retaining Disabled People.  

On average (as of today) there are 96 employers registered on each event. These events have been promoted via the KPMG Ability Networks; Lord Lieutenants Office and DC Leader networks/channels. Please feel free to share with your teams, members or partners.
