Movement to Work is here to help you emerge stronger
A message from our Interim CEO Dal Channa
Back in May, after a few weeks taking stock of the problems and solutions across our network of employers, youth outreach organisations, research experts and government allies, we launched our Emerge Stronger campaign. We put forward three core initiatives: Young People First. Be Accessible, Go Digital. Support and Empower. Since then, With these ambitions front of mind, we have been busy progressing a range of new activity from our first virtual MtW Forum bringing together over 150 people from 95 different organisations, to the innovative launch of our Impact Map, hosting our first MtW Youth Ambassador meeting, and providing our network with a free Virtual Work Experience Toolkit to support them into BAU (evermore!) online. We have also been actively using our voice to raise awareness in circles of influence, making U.K. leaders aware of the problems and solutions, and we are encouraged by the recent and substantial announcements from the Chancellor of the Exchequer around enabling youth employment. We look forward to working with the government to understand in more detail how employers can use these schemes to support young people into employment.
With your support and guidance, we will continue to pursue our aims and help young people – as now more than ever, they need us to advocate for them. So please take a look at our Emerge Stronger page, where you’ll find more information around the campaign and how you can get involved.
For the latest news and updates please join our social media community on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram @MovementtoWork #YoungPeopleWork.
Finally, as ever, a huge thank you to all of YOU for your ongoing support, together we will continue to help more #YoungPeopleWork and help them to forge brighter futures and happier lives.
Movement to Work has Online Forum Success!
On Tuesday 30th June 2020 Movement to Work hosted its first in a series of online forums. Divided into three sections, Insight, Impact and Inspire, we explored how different innovative organisations have adapted to COVID-19.
Attended by over 150 people comprising of 95 organisations, we enjoyed insightful discussions about how we are all adapting following COVID-19, the impact on young people and the road ahead. There was a lot of chatter and questions in the Q&A chat and a reminder that we will be sending out a compilation of all of the questions posed and our responses in the coming days. For those who missed the Forum, a recording of the session will also be shared shortly.
Thanks again to all of our amazing contributors and attendees, we look forward to seeing you at the next Forum! If you have any further feedback on the session or would like to be part of a future Forum, please get in touch with lydia.gibson@movementtowork.com

“Excellent! Great presentation format. Great ideas to take away on how we can do things differently and adapt to new ways of working.”
THE UK GOVERNMENT’S PLAN FOR JOBS
Movement to Work welcomes the substantial measures announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to support everyone, particularly those who are just beginning their careers, into quality work.
We think that the most significant measures for Movement to Work members and partners include:
· Kickstart Scheme
· Sector Based Work Academies
· Apprenticeships
We welcome these new steps to respond to the damage done to youth employment during the pandemic and are keen to work with the government to understand in more detail how employers can use these schemes to support young people into employment.

Join MtW for a Virtual Coffee!
Support and empower is a key part of our ‘Emerge Stronger’ COVID-19 campaign, for the young people we champion AND the employers we serve. We’ve been hosting a series of closed-door ‘Virtual Coffee’ sessions, inviting our employer partners to join together in an informal way to discuss current issues, challenges and best practice. Hosted by our very own Simon Beckman, the relaxed 60-minute conversation focuses around your needs as an employer in today’s climate. To register interest contact: info@movementtowork.com
YOU can Reskill the Recovery with the London Progression Collaboration
The LPC are calling on London’s large employers to pledge unspent apprenticeship levy funds to Reskilling the Recovery, to support the recovery of SMEs from the COVID-19 crisis. By pledging unspent apprenticeship levy funds to Reskilling the Recovery, large businesses can cover the costs of apprenticeship training for SMEs, enabling them to take on and train new staff or upskill existing team members for the challenge ahead. With all businesses keeping a careful watch on their bottom line, the campaign is not asking for cash, but rather for businesses to pledge some of their unspent apprenticeship levy to support SMEs.

The Sage Foundation offers FREE Social Media training
Sage Foundation would like to offer our charity partners in the Movement to Work network the opportunity to build and learn social media skills using their new e-learning module. It’s a FREE resource, in workshop form, takes approximately 2 hours to complete and will walk you through step by step what you need to have a successful social media campaign. The British Council offers Webinar to enhance employment opportunities
Movement to Work has recently been speaking with the British Council (BC) regarding their international programme to support young people by learning more about and embracing different cultures and communities. The BC believes all children and young people need diverse connections and skills, both within their communities and internationally, to build a better future for themselves and for the UK. Further information can be found at this link, https://england.britishcouncil.org/skills-leadership/internationalism-alliance .
The BC has organised a webinar to be held on Monday, 20th July between 11:00 – 13:00. Amongst other points of discussion, the webinar will cover the below and BC would welcome participation from employers to hear their views.
Strengthening connections with employers and business to enhance employment opportunities:
- What are businesses priorities and how can BC adapt language and ‘pitch’ to build a menu offer to support young people
- Explore community libraries as a major platform for employment opportunities or linking to business
- Career services’ links to business
- Exploring Local Authority’s connections to local businesses
