The Careers and Enterprises Company launch 2 new employer tools

During lockdown, The Careers and Enterprises Company have been working hard with employers across the country to provide guidance on how to ensure “their encounters with young people are meaningful, and how to support schools and colleges”. This work has resulted in two brand new resources for employers:

  • A Can-Do Guide for employers: providing advice, tips and best practice examples, designed to help employers “assess how to deliver careers over the next academic year based on the Gatsby Benchmarks”. You can read Sir John Holman’s (author of the Gatsby Benchmarks) blog on the need for a Can-Do Guide here.
  • Resource Directory: Combining all the high-quality resources employers need to “inspire and prepare young people for the fast-changing world of work”, in one place.

The British Army named the best apprenticeship employer in the country

On 21st October, 2020, The British Army was named as the best apprenticeship employer in the country. During 2019/20, the Army helped over 8,000 apprentices gain new skills and progress, with apprenticeships in engineering, telecommunications, logistics, construction, health and IT. Alongside military training, these apprentices work towards a qualification that will be valued by civilian employers.

On 12th November, the Army will be hosting a virtual work experience between 10:30 – 14:30. The programme includes: first hand accounts from serving soldiers about the skills they’ve developed; demonstrations; and exploring the latest Army kit and equipment.

MtW Youth Forums – November 2020

Movement to Work (MtW) is hosting two important Youth Forums on the 10th and 11th November where we want to hear from young people about what life is like for them right now and what barriers to work they are currently facing.

Why is this important? Movement to Work (MtW) is a vibrant not-for-profit coalition of UK employers, youth-outreach organisations, training providers and government allies – all aiming to level the playing field for young age people aged 16-30 facing barriers to work. We are set to host a network-wide summit in February 2021 with CEOs, politicians and leaders from some of the biggest and most influential organisations in the U.K. MtW Youth Forum attendees now have a unique opportunity to help shape this conversation and tell these leaders what access to good work means, what works and what doesn’t, and how we can work together to end youth unemployment.

The forums will be hosted online by MtW, with only young people in attendance. We will take the ideas shared and use it to shape the agenda at our bigger event in February 2021. Willing young people will be able to attend the virtual event and put these questions to the test!

We want to understand what the core issues are related to youth employment and create the agenda for this crucial summit for and with you. Please get involved!
