WEX Programmes

A range of employability programmes is available in addition to the WEX experience which your employer can offer. Government-funded employability schemes can be available at no cost to your employer and vary dependent upon your location, i.e. Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland. There are generally some ‘must-do’s’ attached to Government-funded schemes. Alternatives to Government funded include your employer developing a bespoke programme (either with an external training provider or in-house) or taking advantage of alternative funding. Work Experience (WEX) Standards

MtW is keen to ensure your employability programmes work well for your employer and young people. If your current training programme can support young people develop a sustainable career, the chances are high it will be satisfactory for MtW.

Example: Acceptable: Somerset County Council funded a scheme to help special education needs and disability (SEND) students. Yeovil District Hospital, with a dedicated work coach, trained and still supports a young person who has secured permanent employment in the hospital.

Rule of thumb: If the young person on your course is not receiving an all-round view of the work environment on offer and is continually performing the job of a paid person for the majority of the placement, this is not acceptable.

Existing Employability Programmes

When talking to potential new members, we are often told about existing great opportunities which qualify for MTW membership without the requirement of a pilot. We can enhance existing programmes through our partner network and by leveraging the learnings of operating at scale nationally for the last six years.

For example, we have links with training providers nationally and can recommend which training providers employers can work with in each region to best reflect their programmes.

Diversity & Inclusion

MTW can support your D&I objectives and can provide advice on certain areas of focus. Examples include the employment of ex-offenders, the homeless and those requiring supported employment.

Work Experience Funding

There are many funding options to consider when planning a placement scheme, many of which result in no cost to the employer apart from those involved in the delivery of the WEX in your company. Via the MTW approved partner network, support can be provided.
